What had been widely expected for a couple of weeks was made official on Tuesday, as the Mountain West Conference confirmed that TCU's 2011 contest against Boise State will be moved from Fort Worth, Texas, to Boise, Idaho.
The change in venue was decided by MWC board of directors after the conference's athletic directors voted to recommend the move. TCU did not have a vote in the process, however, because this is the school's last year in the conference before it moves to the Big East.
The Horned Frogs have accomplished a number of impressive feats in their rise to BCS power, but trying to win in Boise might be their stiffest test yet. The Broncos have not lost on their home field since 2005, and that wasn't technically a home game, having come against Boston College in the MPC Computers Bowl. In its 10-year history as a member of the Western Athletic Conference, Boise State went 40-0 on the so-called Smurf Turf.
There is at least one piece of good news for the Horned Frogs, however.
In an interview with the Daily Skiff, TCU's school newspaper, athletic director Chris Del Conte said he has a nonconference date for the upcoming season to replace Texas Tech after the Red Raiders backed out of the schools' scheduled meeting earlier this month.
"I should have an announcement by Wednesday," he told the paper. "It's done. I just have to wait on one little hiccup on the schedule."
