Holy smokes! Ohio State student runs 4.4 in qualifiers for race vs. Buckeye footballers
Can a student beat the fastest guys on the Ohio State football team in a 40-yard dash?
Based on the results of Wednesday's qualifications for the competition, it may not be that far-fetched of an idea.
Fernando Lovo, OSU's football operations coordinator, told Ohio State's student newspaper The Lantern that the fastest time of the day was a 4.4-second 40-yard dash. For some perspective on just how fast that is, only nine NFL hopefuls ran a 4.4 or less in the dash at this year's combine in Indianapolis.
Who the speedster is remains a mystery, as the school has not yet released the names associated with the results.
Other Buckeye students at the event recorded times in the 4.5s and 4.6.
Students who logged the fastest times in this stage will advance to the next round taking place at Ohio State's Student Appreciation Day on April 5. The winner will earn the right to race Ohio State running back Dontre Wilson and wide receiver Devin Smith during halftime of the Buckeyes' spring game on April 12
Wilson has been timed at 4.33 in the 40. That number won't be easy to squash, considering it's not too far off from Chris Johnson's NFL combine record of 4.24 seconds.
