CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University men's basketball coach Barry Hinson announced the addition of freshman forward Chase Heins to the roster for the upcoming season.

The 6-foot-6, 255-pound Heins averaged 13.1 points and 8.6 rebounds as a senior last year for Class 2A Trico High School, which is located approximately 30 miles northwest of Carbondale.

"We are very excited to add a local player of Chase's caliber to our program," said Hinson. "We worked him out and were impressed with his size, strength and skill level. We think he can develop into a solid player for us."

Heins led Trico to a 26-5 record last season, playing for former Saluki player and coach Shane Hawkins. The Pioneers lost in the Regionals to Pinckneyville.

"Coach Hawkins gave us a strong recommendation on Chase," said Hinson. "He said Chase is a hard worker, a good teammate and a player who can succeed at this level."
