High School Football Week 8

Thursday,
October 17 - High School Football Game of the Week on FOX Sports Ohio
Wyoming
Cowboys (5-2 / 4-0 conf.) @ Mariemont Warriors (5-2 / 3-1 conf.) at 7pm
First
place and valuable playoff points are on the line as the Wyoming Cowboys head
to Mariemont to take on the Warriors in a Cincinnati Hills League match-up.
After dropping two straight in weeks two and three, the Cowboys have won four
straight and are poised to win the CHL and possibly make some noise in the
postseason. Mariemont’s new head coach Kurry Commins has an eye on the
conference title as well, winning three straight, bolstered by a stingy Warrior
defense that has only allowed 87 points this season.

Wyoming
Cowboys
An
experienced senior class that will include eight three-year starters makes
Wyoming a favorite to win the CHL and possibly do some damage in the
postseason. The Cowboys are explosive at the skills positions on offense. With
seven starters back on defense, head coach Aaron Hancock is going to be able to
unleash the cavalry and have them wreak havoc on foes. This team has the
players and experience to not only make the playoffs, but do some serious
damage once they get there.

Change
can be a good thing when it brings a fresh outlook on things. Mariemont
football is seeing just that under new head coach Kurry Commins. Last fall
Commins came to Mariemont as an assistant after successful head coaching runs
at Oak Hills and Mount Healthy. He instituted a weight program - something that
the Warriors never had before. His players are putting their time in to be
bigger and stronger, and the results are showing on the field.

Shaker
Heights Red Raiders
Under
the direction of Head Coach Jarvis Gibson, the Red Raiders of Shaker Heights
are in good position to make the playoffs for the first time in nearly a
decade. With the realignment of Division I, Shaker Heights is currently a 15
seed in Region I. The top 16 teams in the region make the playoffs. Last
season, the Red Raiders missed the playoffs despite having an 8-2 record. In
their two losses a season ago, Shaker Heights lost by a combined four points.
Those four points have turned into a motivating force in 2013. During
practice or while in the weight room, the team always finishes with four more
plays or four more reps as a way to remind them of just how close they were to
making the playoffs a season ago.
Elyria
Pioneers
The
Elyria Pioneers are also in good position to make the playoffs for the first
time since 2005. Head Coach Kevin Fell is no stranger to the playoffs. He’s
been working the sidelines as a coach for 37 years and won a state championship
in 1985 while leading Delphos Jefferson. Elyria is currently an 11 seed in
Division I, Region 1, but with two losses on the season, there’s little room for
error these last few weeks. Through seven games, the Pioneers are averaging 40
points a contest and are racking up more than 450 yards of offense per game. On
the defensive side they’ve recorded 49 tackles for loss and have recorded 32
sacks.
