CLEVELAND -- It didn't go well for the Cavaliers as a whole, but J.J. Hickson had a career night in the Cavaliers' 100-88 loss to the Hawks Tuesday night.

Hickson set career highs in points with 31 and field goals made with 11.

His previous high point total was 23 last January vs. Minnesota.

"I thought he was good at both ends of the floor," Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott said. "He deserved to have a night like he had tonight."

Hickson also had 5 rebounds and went 9-of-11 from the free throw line. He showed off his improved jump shot in going 7-of-8 from the floor in the first half, with his first three makes all coming from 16 feet or further.

Hickson's effort even brought some playful "MVP" chants from the Quicken Loans Arena crowd when he was at the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

"It was a good night for me but it doesn't mean anything because we lost," Hickson said. "We have to keep working."

Marvin Williams led five Hawks in double figures with 22 points. Al Horford and Jamal Crawford scored 16 apiece.
