Braves outfielder Jason Heyward lost the National League Rookie of the Year award to fellow Georgian Buster Posey.

Posey, from Leesburg in southwest Georgia, had 20 first-place votes. Heyward, from McDonough, Georgia just south of Atlanta, had nine first-place votes. Heyward received 20 second-place votes, while Posey had nine second-place votes. Two voters had Heyward third on their ballot.

Posey might have gotten the edge because of his impact on the San Francisco lineup at the end of the season. Votes were counted before the postseason, but Posey had eight home runs in September as the Giants won the National League West.
