Hawks G Korver to undergo surgery on right ankle

Atlanta Hawks guard Kyle Korver needs surgery to repair the injured right ankle he suffered during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals.
After traveling to New York for additional testing, Korver will undergo surgery on Wednesday. The exact nature of the surgery and the timetable for his return has yet to be determined, according to Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer.
"There was some hope that surgery would not be required, but after further tests it was determined that he will need surgery to get him back to where we want him," Budenholzer said. "We all want what's best for Kyle and look forward to having him back."
Korver injured the ankle during a loose-ball situation when Cleveland Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova rolled Korver's lower leg. Korver immediately exited the game and while the team announced he was going to miss the remainder of the playoffs with a severe ankle sprain, news about the severity of the injury started popping up following Game 3 when Hawks forward DeMarre Carroll was discussing Al Horford's ejection that also involved Dellavedova.
"I looked at the replay (of the Horford ejection)," Carroll said on Sunday night. "I just seen Dellavedova diving. You know, he did it to Kyle -- he's one of our starters and he's gotta have surgery, he's out 4-6 months."
The information that Korver will need surgery was first confirmed in a report by TNT's David Aldridge.
Korver was named to his first All-Star team after once again leading the NBA in 3-point shooting, knocking down 49.2 percent of his attempts from the outside. He averaged 12.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game and a career-high 122 offensive rating -- mandating that opponents pay extra attention to him throughout the Hawks' playoff run to the conference finals. In short, he enjoyed the best season of his career at the age of 33.
If the recovery timeline is 4-6 months, there is a possibility that Korver could miss offseason workouts, training camp and possibly games early next season.
