The hot April start the Texas Rangers had has paid off for outfielder Josh Hamilton and right-hander Yu Darvish.

The selections marked the first time in club history the team had two players win monthly honors in the same month.

Hamilton was named the American League's player of the month for April while Darvish was tabbed the rookie of the month.

Hamilton, who missed all three games of the club's series against Toronto, batted .395 in April with an AL-high nine home runs and 25 RBIs. Hamilton has now won the AL award four times, with the last coming in June 2010, the year he won the AL most valuable player award.

Boston's David Ortiz, Toronto's Edwin Encarnacion, Minnesota's Josh Willingham and New York's Derek Jeter also received votes.

Darvish went 4-0 in April with a 2.18 ERA and 33 strikeouts.

He's just the third Texas player to win a rookie of the month award, joining Gerald Laird (April 2004) and Neftali Feliz (September 2010).

Oakland's Yoenis Cespedes, Detroit's Drew Smyly and Baltimore's Wei-Yin Chen also received votes.

Chicago's Jake Peavy won the AL pitcher of the month honor.
