Marcus Hall was a starter for the Ohio State offensive line for the past two seasons, but he probably did not become known much beyond the fans of the Buckeyes until being thrown out of the Ohio State-Michigan game Nov. 30 for his part in an on-field altercation between the teams following a kickoff.
That's when he made headlines all over the Internet by extending both middle fingers to the Michigan Stadium crowd while exiting the field.
ESPN cameras caught the act, and still shots of it were already on merchandise before the Buckeyes played Michigan State a week later for the Big Ten championship. Hall was suspended for that game but closed out his career by playing in the Orange Bowl against Clemson.
Now with his eligibility used up, Hall is quite understandably cashing in on his notoriety.
Ben Axelrod, a reporter who covers Ohio State for Buckeye Sports Bulletin and Scout.com, spotted a picture bearing Hall's autograph for sale at a shop in the Columbus area. See it here.
Along with his signature, Hall wrote, "4 x GOLD PANTS," a message referring to the gold charms all Ohio State players receive each time the Buckeyes beat the Wolverines on the football field. They were 4-1 during his career, including a 42-41 victory in the most recent game.
The items are also available on eBay, and central Ohio memorabilia dealer Sports Possessions is promoting a signing event including Hall scheduled for Feb. 22, where he is set to sign "the most popular image of the year."
