Gun Runner will not race in Saturday's Preakness Stakes

Gun Runner, who finished third in the Kentucky Derby as the third choice, will not run in Saturday's Preakness, trainer Steve Asmussen announced on Tuesday.

Tthe Louisiana Derby winner would have been one of the strongers contenders to Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist in the second leg of the Triple Crown.

"We're going to pass on the Preakness," Asmussen said. "We're going to continue to train at Churchill and plan on a serious summer of 3-year-old races with him. He's been in tremendous physical condition going into the Derby and coming out of it, and we expect for him to continue to physically develop."
