Gregg Marshall reaches agreement to remain at Wichita State

Gregg Marshall has informed Alabama athletic director Bill Battle that he'll be remaining at Wichita State, according to a statement released by Alabama late Wednesday night.

"I received word tonight that Coach Gregg Marshall has chosen to remain the head basketball coach at Wichita State," the statement read. "I fully respect his decision and wish him and his family all the best."

Earlier in the day, it appeared to be only a matter of time before Marshall ditched the Sunflower State for the Heart of Dixie.

CBS Sports' Gary Parrish reported that Battle had visited with Marshall in Wichita on Monday. Then, early Wednesday afternoon, Yahoo's Pat Forde reported that Marshall and his family were planning a trip to Tuscaloosa on Friday.

But just as it appeared the Crimson Tide had tagged their replacement for Anthony Grant, ESPN's Andy Katz reported that Wichita State was working on "an enhanced contract package" to retain Marshall as its head coach.

A few hours later, reports began to surface that Marshall had reached a verbal agreement to remain with the Shockers and, shortly thereafter, the Alabama camp confirmed that he'd turned them down.

Marshall, 52, is 204-76 in his eight seasons at Wichita State. He led the Shockers to their third Missouri Valley Conference Title in the last four years and a berth in the Sweet 16 in 2014-15, finishing the year with an overall record of 30-5.

As for terms of Marshall's deal with the Shockers, the consensus appears to be that it's a seven-year deal worth somewhere in the neighborhod of $3 million.
