PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) -- Justin Upton and Chris Johnson each hit solo home runs, and the Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets 4-2 on Monday.
Upton hit a long home run to left field in the first inning and Johnson, who went 3 for 3, connected in the seventh.
Mets right fielder Marlon Byrd had a hit and two RBIs. Ike Davis doubled and scored.
Tim Hudson, who is expected to be the Braves' starter on opening day, threw 80 pitches in four innings, allowing six hits and one run. He struck out two.
Braves catcher Christian Bethancourt threw out two base runners and nearly hit Hudson with the ball on one of the throws to second.
Mets starter Jeremy Hefner went three innings, allowing three hits and struck out two.
BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) -- A.J. Burnett walked in a pair of runs in Philadelphia's four-run second inning Monday as the Phillies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-0 Monday.
Burnett lasted just 1 1-3 inning of a scheduled three because of a high pitch count. The Pirates' opening-day starter allowed four runs, four hits and struck out two.
Phillies fifth starter John Lannan and four relievers combined on a one-hitter. Lannan gave up the Pirates' only hit, a two-out double by Travis Snider in the first, and walked two during three scoreless innings.
Michael Young had two hits and two RBIs for Philadelphia. Ben Revere and Yuniesky Betancourt also had two hits.
Left-hander Wandy Rodriguez, the Pirates' No. 2 starter, pitched three scoreless innings. He then departed to join the Dominican Republic team for first-round pool play in the World Baseball Classic.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- Felix Doubront pitched 1 2-3 scoreless innings in his first outing of spring training, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Rays 5-1 Monday.
Dubront's debut was delayed by a sore left shoulder. He gave up one hit, walked two and struck out two. He threw 43 pitches.
Rays right-hander Jeremy Hellickson, making his first start and second appearance of the spring, went three innings, allowing one run and two hits with four strikeouts. He threw 43 pitches, 31 for strikes.
The Red Sox scored a run in the third off Hellickson as Jose Iglesias hit a one-out double, advanced to third as Brock Holt grounded out and scored on Pedro Ciriaco's single to left.
Cole Figeuroa drove in a run for the Rays in the fourth with a two-out double.
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Lance Lynn allowed four hits in a three-run first inning and Jason Motte gave up a two-run homer in his second straight outing as the St. Louis Cardinals lost to the Minnesota Twins 7-0 Monday.
Working on his slider instead of throwing fastballs and trying to induce fly balls into the wind, Lynn gave up three runs -- two earned -- and five hits in 2 1-3 innings.
Aaron Hicks and Brian Dozier started with singles, and Trevor Plouffe hit a sacrifice fly. Singles by Chris Parmalee and Joe Benson brought in another run, and Lynn threw wildly on Wilkin Ramirez's grounder for an error that allowed the third run in.
LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) -- Rick Porcello pitched a spring training-high four scoreless innings, and Alex Avila had three RBIs to lead the Detroit Tigers to an 8-5 win over the Houston Astros on Monday.
Porcello, competing with several others for one of the remaining openings in the Tigers rotation, allowed three hits and struck out six. He lowered his spring ERA to 3.38. Potential Tigers closers Brayan Villarreal and Al Albuquerque each struck the side.
For Villarreal, it was his first appearance since his family in Venezuela was the target of an armed kidnapping attempt on Friday. None of his family members were harmed.
Jared Cosart started for the Astros and allowed three runs in two innings. He also walked four.
The Astros walked nine and committed two errors.
