KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -- Justin Upton was 3 for 3 with two homers and six RBIs, and the Atlanta Braves overcame a bad start by Kris Medlen in a 17-10 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.
Upton hit a two-run homer in the first inning against Rodrigo Lopez, connected for a three-run shot in the third off Colton Murray and had a RBI single in fifth and also drew a walk. Acquired from Arizona in January, he has four homers and 15 RBIs.
Freddie Freeman and Juan Francisco also homered for the Braves, who scored six times in the first and finished with 19 hits. Francisco and Tyler Pastornicky each had three hits.
Medlen, who was 9-0 with a 0.97 ERA after joining the Braves rotation last year, allowed nine runs and 14 hits in five innings as his ERA jumped from 2.63 to 6.27.
Yuniesky Betancourt had four hits for the Phillies and Domonic Brown had three, including a home run.
VIERA, Fla. (AP) -- The Detroit Tigers rallied for four runs off Rafael Soriano in the seventh inning and beat the Washington Nationals 5-1 Monday.
Given a 1-0 lead, Soriano allowed five hits and a walk, retiring just two batters. Detroit went ahead on RBI singles by Prince Fielder, Alex Avila, Omar Infante and Ramon Santiago. Tyler Collins added a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
Washington starter Jordan Zimmermann, throwing a hard sinker, gave up a leadoff single to Andy Dirks and then retired his next 18 batters.
Detroit starter Max Scherzer gave up five hits in five innings, including Adam LaRoche's home run in the fourth.
Washington's Wilson Ramos went 3 for 3.
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Matt Harvey struck out six over 5 1-3 innings of two-run ball as the New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 Monday.
Harvey allowed six hits and has a 2.95 ERA in four spring-training starts.
Cardinals starter Jake Westbrook allowed two runs and three hits in six innings, giving up Lucas Duda's two-run homer in the fourth. Matt Adams hit an RBI double in the bottom half and scored on a single by prospect Oscar Taveras.
Westbrook, projected as the Cardinals' No. 4 starter, has a 3.86 ERA in four starts.
New York's Travis d'Arnuad went 2 for 3 and increased his batting average to .345. He doubled off Marc Rzepczynski leading off the seventh and scored on Andrew Brown's single.FORT MYERS, Fla. Eovaldi, slated to be the Marlins' No. 2 starter, allowed five hits in a five-inning complete game, struck out three and walked two. Twins starter Kevin Correia gave up five runs, five hits and two walks in four innings.
Minnesota's Joe Mauer, in his first game back from the World Baseball Classic, went 2 for 3 and increased his average to .429.
BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) -- Neil Walker homered to end Clay Buchholz's 9 1-3 inning scoreless streak and Gaby Sanchez hit a two-run drive to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates over the Boston Red Sox 4-3 Monday.
Walker's leadoff homer in the second was the only hit off Buchholz, who struck out four and walked two in five innings.
Sanchez homered in the seventh against Chris Carpenter, and Michael McKenry hit a solo drive off Oscar Villarreal in the eighth.
Pirates starter James McDonald labored in the first, when Ryan Lavarnway hit a two-run single, then retired 11 of 14 batters. He gave up four hits and three walks in five innings and struck out six.
