KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Making the All-Star Game sure felt good to the Royals' Alex Gordon, Salvador Perez and Greg Holland.
And it will make each of them feel even better financially, either now or in the future.
Most major league contracts carry a $50,000 bonus for players making the All-Star team.
Some contracts, as in the case of Gordon's, carry much higher rewards for getting selected.
According to figures obtained by Ronald Blum of The Associated Press, Gordon will get a $500,000 salary bump in each of the next two seasons. That will push Gordon's 2014 salary to $10.75 million and his 2015 salary to $13.25 million. In addition, Gordon's player option for 2016 will increase by $500,000, also to $13.25 million.
Gordon also is eligible for other escalators, such as winning the Gold Glove again, which he seems likely to do.
Perez's selection allowed him to lay the groundwork for future bonuses. He will get a financial boost if he accumulates four "points” -- in that system, Perez will get one point for either an All-Star selection, a Gold Glove, a Silver Slugger Award or a top 15 Most Valuable Player voting finish, according to the AP.
Perez is signed through 2016, and the Royals have club options for 2017 ($3.75 million), 2018 ($5 million) and 2019 ($6 million).
Holland, who is making $539,500 this season, is arbitration eligible after this season and is likely in line for a substantial increase based on his 2013 performance and All-Star selection.
