MINNEAPOLIS -- The Gophers' already limited depth at wide receiver just got even thinner.

The University of Minnesota announced Monday that junior wide receiver Devin Crawford-Tufts will not play football this fall, instead opting to focus on track and field. Crawford-Tufts, a two-sport athlete at Minnesota and former high school track champion, finished fourth at the Big Ten Championships in the 60-meter dash.

"Devin and I have met multiple times over the past couple of months, and he has decided to focus on track and field for the upcoming season," Gophers head coach Jerry Kill said in a statement. "Devin is a fine young man. We wish him well and will be rooting for him."

The Gophers were hoping Crawford-Tufts could help strengthen the rather inexperienced wide receiver corps this year. The speedy Edina, Minn., native had 16 catches for 189 yards as a sophomore last year. During his freshman season in 2011, Crawford-Tufts caught eight passes for 156 yards in nine games.
