MINNEAPOLIS -- For the second week in a row, Gophers punter
Peter Mortell was honored as the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week.
Mortell punted four times in Saturday’s 24-10 victory over
visiting Penn State and averaged 46.0 yards per punt. One of Mortell’s punts
was downed at the 1-yard line, while another was downed at the 2-yard line to
help the Gophers win the field-position battle. After Saturday’s game, Mortell
is now tied for second in the Big Ten in yards per punt this season (42.8).
It marks the second straight week in which Mortell won the
award. He also was honored after last week’s win at Indiana, in which he
averaged 43.0 yards per punt, with two of them downed inside the 20-yard line.
