MINNEAPOLIS -- The Big Ten conference announced on Monday that Minnesota hockey player Vinni Lettieri would be suspended under the conference's supplemental discipline process for an altercation that occurred between Minnesota and rival Wisconsin on Jan. 17.

Lettieri has been suspended for one game for leaving the bench during an altercation at the 19:29 mark of the third period. Lettieri is ineligible to play in Minnesota's next game, on Jan. 23 against Minnesota State.

Wisconsin's Eddie Wittchow, who received a one-game suspension for a disqualification penalty in the game, has been suspended for one additional game under the conference's supplemental discipline process.

The action was taken by the conference after a review of an incident that occurred near the 19:29 mark of the third period and resulted in the player receiving a major penalty for contact to the head and a game disqualification. A disqualification penalty is accompanied by an automatic one-game suspension.
