The Gophers fired a season-high 42 shots on goal on Friday night, but it wasn't enough to top Big Ten rival Penn State on the road, as the Nittany Lions dropped the University of Minnesota 3-2 in overtime at Pegula Ice Arena.
It was just their second win over the Gophers in the program's short history.
Vinni Lettieri assisted on both of Brent Gates Jr.'s goals, as the Gophers battled back after falling behind 2-0 early in the second period.
Gates kicked off the comeback in the third period, scoring at 1:39 to make it 2-1 Penn State, before tying things up at 10:12 with his second of the night.
