MINNEAPOLIS — Gophers sophomore point guard Andre Hollins has burst onto the college basketball scene this year, and now he's being recognized for it.

Hollins was named as one of 20 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award, which is given each year to the top point guard in college basketball. The list will be cut down to 10 players by early February, then again to a final five in March before the winner is announced during the Final Four in Atlanta.

Hollins currently leads Minnesota in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game. His 3.7 assists per game are also a team high. Hollins is connecting on 43.3 percent of his 3-pointers, which leads the Gophers. He scored 22 points and added eight rebounds in Wednesday's win over Illinois.

Hollins and No. 8 Minnesota travel to play No. 5 Indiana on Saturday.
