MINNEAPOLIS -- The Gophers men's basketball team added another player Wednesday to its latest recruiting class.

Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino announced that the Gophers have signed forward Jordan Murphy from San Antonio to the upcoming freshman class. He joins fellow freshmen Kevin Dorsey, Ahmad Gilbert, Jarvis Johnson and Dupree McBrayer, as well as Southern Illinois transfer Reggie Lynch.

Murphy is a 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward who played his high school basketball at William J. Brennan High School in San Antonio. As a senior, Murphy averaged 23.6 points as well as 10.5 rebounds per game and was a McDonald's All-American finalist, as well as several other accolades.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Jordan Murphy into the Gopher family," Pitino said in a statement. "He will bring the size, ability and versatility that we were looking for."

Murphy was originally committed to Virginia Commonwealth University but opened up his commitment after VCU coach Shaka Smart took the head coaching job at Texas. He had several other Division I offers and was ranked as a three-star recruit by both Rivals and 247 Sports.
