The Arizona Diamondbacks representatives had a quiet All-Star Game at the plate as the American League beat the National League 5-3 on Tuesday night.
Paul Goldschmidt, the starter at first base for the NL, went 0-for-3 from the cleanup position.
He grounded out to third with a runner on second base in the first inning, lined out to second base in the third and struck out against former D-back Max Scherzer to end the fifth inning with Troy Tulowitzki on second.
Miguel Montero, who came in an as a reserve catcher, led off the ninth inning against Twins closer Glen Perkins and flied out to center in his only at-bat. Montero spent one inning behind the plate.
Goldschmidt, making his second All-Star Game appearance, stuck around long enough to flash his Gold Glove form. He stabbed a shot from Oakland's Josh Donaldson and threw to pitcher Pat Neshek for the first out in the bottom of the fifth.
The D-backs return to action Friday against the visiting Chicago Cubs. The FOX Sports Arizona telecast begins at 6 p.m.
