Gary Woodland has been admitted to a local hospital and diagnosed with a virus after playing in the first round of the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay.

Woodland's agent, Mark Steinberg, said in a statement Thursday afternoon that Woodland had been admitted to Tacoma General Hospital.

Steinberg said Woodland had not been feeling well since Sunday. He thought he was feeling better, but then began to feel worse again in the last 36 hours. Woodland received IV fluids on Thursday morning and shot 74 in the first round.
