Game report: D-backs 10, Giants 0

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Some starting pitchers shy away from facing division opponents in spring training games lest they divulge too many secrets.
Not Josh Collmenter.
Collmenter looked at his third outing of the spring Tuesday as just another way to get into San Francisco's head. Collmenter will face the Giants in the season opener on April 6, opposing Madison Bumgarner, who also started in the D-backs' 10-0 victory at Scottsdale Stadium.
But will the Giants see the same guy that limited them to two hits in four scoreless innings? The same pitches? The same locations?
"Maybe to try a couple of different things," Collmenter said.
"Just to try to get some reactions from hitters. A lot of times, certain right-handers or certain left-handers typically can hit one pitch better than another. I just wanted to see how they could do with pitches they don't normally see. It's feedback for me, something to have in the back of my mind that if I need it in a situation, I know I can execute it and probably have success.
"Sometimes it is just a decoy. Any time you can get them conscious of a pitch, or especially location, if they are guarding a certain side of the plate, it makes pitching to the other side a lot easier."
Brandon Drury, making his first start at third base this spring, hit a bases-empty home run off Bumgarner and a two-run double off reliever Curtis Partch in the third inning. He was removed after being hit in the left elbow by a pitch in the seventh inning but had no ill effects.
"My elbow went numb-er. It hurt, but I'm good now," Drury said.
His homer off Bumgarner, on a fastball, was his third of the spring, in 23 at-bats.
"To feel like I belong here at this level feels good," Drury said. "There is a lot of work to do and a lot of things to work on on both sides of the ball, but I do feel good to play with the big league guys and try to learn from them every day."
ROTATION REPORT
Josh Collmenter: He faced only two batters over the minimum in his longest spring outing while facing what could be the Giants' opening-day group, which included 3-4-5 hitters Buster Posey, Brandon Belt and Casey McGehee.
Collmenter gave up singles to Gregor Blanco and Nori Aoki in the third inning before getting out of the inning on a foul popup to third by Joe Panik. "The biggest thing is to get stamina built up," Collmenter said.
Allen Webster: He made his best outing of the spring his longest, giving up three hits in four scoreless innings. He pounded the strike zone with two-seam fastball and got ahead in counts, forcing the Giants to expand their zone.
"He showed us the reason why we coveted him so much in the trade," manager Chip Hale said. "Great stuff. His mound presence improved. He has really good natural sink, and he got a lot of ground balls. Then he could throw his four-seamer up, and they were a little bit late on it.
"He's in the mix (for a rotation spot). They're all in the mix. We're going to have to pick our five, but hopefully when we make this decision we will have four or five more guys who maybe have deserved it but we didn't have room for them, and are ready if something happens. He pitched himself right back into it."
Yasmany Tomas was given the day off Tuesday, staying at Salt River Fields to do extra hitting with hitting coach Turner Ward. Tomas is start third base against Colorado on Wednesday night, when Jake Lamb is to start at first base, Hale said. Lamb played one game at first base at Reno last season, his only pro experience at the position. ... Catcher Peter O'Brien made two off-target throws while attempting to return the ball to the mound in the "B" game Sunday and has a throwing error on a stolen base attempt, but Hale did not seem concerned. "All those positions he's played in the past, his arm angle has to find its spot," Hale said. "He's working on it. We think it is something that will take care of itself. ... Right-hander Enrique Burgos pitched a scoreless ninth, erasing a walk with a double-play grounder, and has given up only two hits and one run in five spring innings. He has four strikeouts.
The D-backs posted a picture of Patrick Corbin throwing on flat ground at Salt River Fields on their Instagram account Tuesday morning, with an accompanying quote from Corbin. "Getting ready for my first bullpen session next Tuesday. Feel great." ... Daniel Hudson and Brad Ziegler will pitch in a minor league game at 1 p.m. today at Salt River Fields. Hudson is scheduled to go two innings, and Ziegler will go one. Ziegler will be making his first appearance in a spring game following October microfracture surgery on his left knee.
