TEMPE, Ariz.  – One day after being shut out, thirteenth-ranked Cal State Fullerton rapped out 18 hits and defeated No. 14 Arizona State 9-5 on Wednesday night at Packard Stadium in front of a season-high 3,915 fans. The Titans (15-9) and Sun Devils (16-9) split their two-game mid-week series.

Billy Young (0-1) took the loss in his first career start at ASU after giving up three earned runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Fullerton took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the fourth. Young gave up a pair of singles with one out and was replaced by Alex Blackford, who conceded a pair of RBI singles and an RBI groundout.

It was a 6-4 game heading into the ninth, when Fullerton tacked on three more runs to pull away.

Joey DeMichele, Abe Ruiz, Max Rossiter and Nathaniel Causey had two hits apiece for the Sun Devils, who travel to Eugene, Ore., to take on the Oregon Ducks for a three-game series starting Friday night.
