TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State's basketball coaches have been optimistic all along that Chris Singleton would return this season from a foot injury.

There's a chance he could return to play Friday in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament when Florida State plays the Virginia Tech-Georgia Tech winner in the quarterfinals at 9 p.m. ET.

'I think he's obviously made tremendous improvement in his rehab,' Seminoles coach Leonard Hamilton said Monday. 'He's getting awful close. I don't know whether he will be ready for Friday, but I don't know if he won't.

'We're going to proceed optimistic but cautious. I feel like he's going to be close.'

Singleton leads Florida State in scoring (13.1 points per game) and rebounds (7.1). He broke his right foot in the win over Virginia on Feb. 12 and immediately had surgery.

Florida State (21-9, 11-5 ACC) is 3-2 since his injury.

Singleton's return might also convince the NCAA Selection Committee to award Florida State a higher seeding when the group meets to pick the 68-team NCAA tournament field on Sunday.
