TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- With three games left in the season, Florida State is piling up the points and tearing the cover off the record books.

The 2012 team held Florida State's single-season record for just under 11 months, putting up 550 points.

By the second quarter of Saturday's game, on a 46-yard touchdown pass from Jameis Winston to Kenny Shaw, the 2013 team had the record. Florida State now has 607 points -- with a game at Florida, an ACC championship game and a bowl game left.

Florida State also surpassed the 40-point mark for the 11th straight game, extending another school record. And the Seminoles, yep, scored a school record 80 points in an 80-14 victory over Idaho on Saturday.

Here are five observations from the rout:

1. The seniors had fun.

As Florida State honored 24 seniors who were playing their final game at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday, plenty of them had a final, memorable play.

Linebacker Telvin Smith had a 79-yard interception return for a touchdown. Defensive tackle Jacobbi McDaniel picked off a pass. And Shaw had a nice catch-and-run for a touchdown.

2. Florida State finished 7-0 at home.

The Seminoles enjoyed a perfect run at home for the first time since 2000. The home slate wasn't the best in 2013, with the exception of a top-10 showdown with Miami (Florida State pulled away in the second half to win 41-14).

As it turned out, that was the closest game in Tallahassee. Florida State won the rest of the games by 32 or more. The Seminoles won their seven home games by a combined 408-61.

3. The chase for 1,000 is on.

Florida State hasn't had a 1,000-yard receiver since Anquan Boldin in 2002. But Shaw had five catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns, pulling him up to 828 receiving yards. And Rashad Greene had a quiet day with 29 yards, placing him at 899 yards.

Devonta Freeman had been quiet the past few games, but he ran for 129 yards and 60-yard touchdown to put Florida State on the board in the first quarter. Freeman also has 808 rushing yards this season, putting him within striking distance of 1,000 with three games to go.

4. Fisher got his (somewhat pricey) win.

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher wanted a non-conference game (read: soft opponent) for the week before the Seminoles played Florida. And for $950,000, Idaho fit the bill.

It's not the most attractive game for the fans. But it allowed the starters to rest in the second half. Here's hoping that Florida State officials can schedule more attractive opponents from around the region (Florida International or South Alabama, for example) for future late-November games.

5. Sean Maguire looked good as Winston's backup.

Maguire and Winston were both in the class of 2012, and Maguire often heard from college coaches who thought he would back off his verbal commitment to Florida State and play elsewhere.

But after Clint Trickett transferred to West Virginia and Jacob Coker suffered a season-ending knee injury, Maguire is now the No. 2 quarterback. And Maguire looked mostly good again on Saturday, completing 9 of 14 passes for 84 yards, a touchdown and an interception and leading Florida State on a few scoring drives.
