After the Browns' 27-11 loss to the Steelers on Sunday, our Zac Jackson wrote about the team missing a chance not only to beat a rival but also show some progress is being made this season.
With the club failing to accomplish either task, he suggested management pull out all the stops to upgrade the quarterback position, a move FSO reader "JP" agrees is necessary in our "Comment of the Day."
Respectfully, the Browns need to sell their soul for a franchise Quarterback already. They haven't targeting a franchise changing Quarterback and acquired one since drafting Tim Couch and Brady Quinn. We've making do with stop-gaps (Garcia, Delhome, Dilfer, Wallace) and "hopefulls" (Frye, McCoy, Anderson) for far too long. Quarterback is the single most important position in all of sports. Look at what Luck and Griffin have done to turn around their teams. Look at how having a mediocre Quarterback in Houston, Tennessee, and Cincinnati can hold back an otherwise talented team and keep them from reaching their full potential. Look at how Raiders have been so awful and the second they got a halfway decent QB, Pryor, they're suddenly more competitive and the whole team loo ks bette r (though far from a championship).
Put simply, we've passed on Kaepernick, Tannehill, and E.J. Manuel the past three years. Imagine how different things would've been if management ignored the stupid, reactionary Cleveland Media and fan base, who know nothing more about drafting players than what Mel Kiper tells them, and drafted a freaking quarterback. The Browns have needs at other positions (Y and Z Reciever, 2nd Starting CB, Right Guard, Back-up MLB, and a Halfback), but you could fill every single one and still be no closer to a championship without a Quarterback.
Well said, JP.
