Francona to remain in Goodyear for Friday's split squad-games

Some might think determining the rosters and coaching staffs for split-squad games is a complicated formula. For Friday's Indians split-squad games, Terry Francona's decision on where to go was easy.

Francona and pitching coach Mickey Callaway will be with the squad in Mesa for the game against the Cubs while most of the coaching staff will remain in Goodyear for the contest against the Diamondbacks.

When asked why he is going to Mesa, Francona told reporters: "It was based on the fact I am taking my daughter and her husband out to dinner. I could tell you that I wanted to see TJ pitch and evaluate his two-seamer down ..."

This is the only time during spring training that the Indians have split squads scheduled.

TRAINING ROOM

Gavin Floyd is seeking second opinions after an MRI earlier this week revealed a re-injury of the right elbow stress fracture that ended his year last June.

During Thursday's 10-5 loss to the Royals, outfielder Ryan Raburn came out of the game due to left knee discomfort and Zach Walters had a right abdominal strain.

Raburn's season ended last September due to a knee injury while Walters battled an intercostal injury the final month of last year. Francona told reporters after the game that both are day to day.

SIM GAME

Corey Kluber went three-plus innings during a sim game on Thursday allowing no runs on four hits with five strikeouts. The reigning Cy Young winner has pitched twice in sim games.

Nick Swisher also took part in the game and was hitless in four plate appearances.
