Indians manager Terry Francona will be spending the all-star break as part of the American League coaching staff.
Before Tuesday's Red Sox-Twins game, Boston manager John Farrell announced that Francona and Minnesota's Ron Gardenhire will be part of Farrell's A.L. staff during the July 15 All-Star Game at Target Field in Minneapolis.
Francona managed the A.L. in the 2005 and '08 games after the Red Sox won the title. He has a long history with Farrell starting when they played together in Cleveland in 1988. Farrell was also Francona's pitching coach in Boston for four seasons (2007-10).
Gardenhire's selection was expected since the home team's manager is usually part of the coaching staff.
