FOX survivor football picks for Week 9

Survive and advance is a popular sports mantra normally saved for the month of March and the madness that comes with it.
But thanks to the rapid growth of the NFL and fantasy football, games like FOX Fantasy Survivor can feed your craving for “win or go home” competition seven months early.
Over 25,000 football fans signed up and participated in the FOX Fantasy Survivor game last season. The hope is, with cash prizes on the line, we can eclipse that mark in 2011.
The premise is simple: pick one (1) team who you believe is going to win that week. The survivor catch remains that once you pick a team to win, you can’t pick that team again for the rest of the season. The good news is, even if you lose, you are still eligible to win cash prizes.
To assist you with your survivor selections, the FOXSports.com’s fantasy football staff will provide you their picks for the week.
Just remember the mantra: survive and advance. In a couple months, you could be $2,000 richer.
Week 8 Recap
I may live to eat these words, but if there were ever a NFL stone-cold LOCK this would be the game.
That was me, Fowler, one week ago today speaking about the Saints’ chances against the St. Louis Rams. If you don’t mind, I’ll be snacking on some crow while typing up this week’s Survivor feature. Oh and for those wondering, this defeat does not taste like chicken, but it does blend the flavors of remorse mixed with my bitterness towards the New Orleans offense.
The NFL, where hindsight happens. I think that sums it up.
Harmon rolled the dice on the Titans at home against the Colts. With the loss, Indianapolis is one step closer to securing the top draft pick next April as Tennessee digs deep for new ways to defend the play of Chris Johnson. The team’s 53-million dollar man continued to struggle with 14 carries for 53 yards. You know it’s bad when you have to reassure the press that CJ is still the number one back and Javon Ringer remains his backup. Money well spent and a Survivor victory for the Swollen Dome.
Beall pulled even with me after the Ravens rallied to beat the Cardinals in Baltimore. Joe Flacco attacked the Arizona pass defense in the second half and Ray Rice finished off three drives with a trio of scores from inside the five. Baltimore outscored Arizona 24-3 in the second half to escape with a 30-27 win.
Halpin took Houston at home to beat Jacksonville’s league-worst offense six days after they shocked Baltimore on Monday night. The Texans’ defense harassed rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert shutting him down to the tune of 10 of 30 passing, two interceptions and a QB rating of 26.7. Halpin remains tied with Harmon atop the Survivor standings at 7-1.
On to Week 9’s picks o’ the week….
Week 9
Halpin: Kansas City over Miami
Editor’s Commentary: The Chiefs enter their Week 9 home game winners of four straight after escaping with an overtime victory against the Chargers on Monday night. For all those who thought the loss of Jamaal Charles would mean the end of KC’s rushing attack, know they are ranked ninth in the NFL in rushing yards per game (124.3).
Miami continues their push for a perfect 0-16 season. Rookie running back Daniel Thomas is slowly recovering from a hamstring injury that has plagued him all season. If he can’t go, Reggie Bush will receive the majority of the carries as he tries to rack up back-to-back 100-yard rushing days for the first time in his career.
Harmon, Beall and Fowler: Atlanta over Indianapolis
Editor’s Commentary: Over their last three games the Colts’ pass defense has allowed opposing quarterbacks to pass for 282 yards per game, 10 touchdowns and no interceptions. Atlanta is coming off their bye and it looks like Julio Jones will return to their lineup after missing some time due to, what else, a hamstring injury.
Indy’s offense has sputtered under Curtis Painter the last three weeks. The Colts are averaging 11.3 points per game during that stretch.
