FOX Sports Florida, Prep Zone Game of the Week featuring two prep school powerhouses
(FT. LAUDERDALE, FL) ― FOX Sports Florida announced today that they will be featuring the Berkeley Prep-Clearwater Central Catholic game on FOXSportsFlorida.com via Prep Zone, presented by Checkers. Prep Zone is a revolutionary way of displaying high school football merging television, web and social media all in one place. Jim Lighthall will call the game, alongside color commentator John Kaleo and Roxanne Wilder reporting from the sidelines.
On Friday, Oct. 19th at 7:30 pm ET, Prep Zone travels to Hillsborough County for a District 3A-5 showdown between Clearwater Central Catholic and host Berkeley Prep. The visiting Marauders (5-1) have run off five consecutive victories following a season-opening loss to East Lake, led by a defense that’s allowed just 14 total points during that span. Michael Richardson, a 6-foot, 175-pound DB holding offers from UCF and Wake Forest, leads the unit, along with junior LB Caanan Brown (6.5 sacks) and senior DL Jordan Adderly (6 sacks). Offensively, junior R Diquan Walker (445 rushing yards, 6 TDs) leads a balanced run game while junior QB Blake Gomez (65 percent passing, 715 yards, 6 TDs) spearheads an effective passing attack.
One season removed from a state semifinal appearance, the unbeaten Buccaneers (6-0) lost plenty of star-power to graduation, including USC-bound RB Nelson Agholor, but haven’t missed a beat. Berkeley is averaging 32.5 points per game behind a ground-heavy attack, led by senior RB Chris Williams (841 yards, 11 TDs). Sophomore QB Brad Mayes has been solid, throwing for 763 yards and 7 TDs with just two interceptions. On defense, the ball-hawking Bucs have forced 23 turnovers and have a pair of standout junior LBs in George Pennington and Clint Gasque.
