It seems Terrell Owens has finally given up his dream of returning to the NFL.
But, as they say, when one door closes, a bowling alley opens.
Owens, who is part owner of the Dallas Strikers of the new Professional Bowlers Association League, is thinking of taking his game from the amateur lanes to the professional tour.
In May, Owens made his semi-pro debut in the United States Bowling Congress Open Championship, rolling scores of 185, 129 and 161 for a 475 total.
Now, Owens thinks it is time to take his game to the next level.
"Hopefully, one day if I get good enough I can be out here competing (on the PBA Tour)," Owens told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.. "The more I get involved and the more competitive I get with the sport, I can envision myself out there competing against these guys."
Wait a second ... should we be getting our popcorn ready again?
"Just like anybody else who doesn't know anything about bowling, you get a house ball and throw it as hard as you can at the head pin and hope and pray for a strike," Owens said. "From there, I learned some of the basics from Norm.
"And it's taken off from there."
The "Norm" he is referring to is PBA pro Norm Duke, who has taken Owens under his wing as he learns the game. Duke is also the franchise player of the Strikers.
"These guys have been competing for years," Owens said. "I'm just trying to grasp and soak up as much knowledge as I can about the sport. I'm learning about angles and how different oil patterns break down as you bowl and understanding whether to make a ball change, a foot change or an eye change."
Owens might have set his bowling sites high, but his franchise player has another thought.
"He is a pretty good bowler," Duke told the newspaper. "Now, to be pro, I would say no."
