NEW YORK (AP) Fire Away beat Request by a nose Friday in the $77,000 allowance feature on the turf at Belmont Park.
The 3-year-old trained by Shug McGaughey raced to his second win in eight starts, running 1 3/8 miles on the firm course in 2:13.07.
Ridden by John Velazquez, Fire Away paid $8, $4.60 and $3.20 as the 3-1 second choice.
Chad Brown trained the second- and third-place finishers. Request, the 5/2 favorite, returned $3.60 and $2.80. Grey Wizard paid $3.10 to show.
