Fifteen minutes to go

In hockey, there's always something special about an Original Six matchup in the Stanley Cup Finals. Baseball's Original Sixteen doesn't have the same ring, especially with so many franchises having moved since 1901, but this is still Tigers vs. Giants, and it is a first-time matchup.
It could have easily been Ty Cobb vs. Christy Mathewson in 1908, but the infamous Fred Merkle game let the Cubs steal a pennant that John McGraw always believed belonged to his Giants.
The teams dominated the 1930s -- Mel Ott and Carl Hubbell taking the Giants to three World Series, while Hank Greenberg and Charlie Gehringer got the Tigers there in 1934 and 1935 -- but they missed each other once again.
Both teams made the League Championship Series in 1987, but Jack Morris and Alan Trammell's team lost to the Twins while Will Clark and Kevin Mitchell couldn't handle the Cardinals.
So finally, 129 years after the New York Giants and Detroit Wolverines faced each other in the 1883 National League -- the first game was at Recreation Park, now the site of the Detroit Medical Center -- we're finally going to get the Tigers and Giants in the World Series.
