Prince Fielder seems like a perfect fit for the Texas Rangers and Rangers Ballpark.
The newest Ranger is hoping that's the case at least after he was dealt by Detroit to the Rangers Wednesday for second baseman Ian Kinsler.
Fielder had to waive his no-trade clause for the deal to happen and had no problem doing it for Texas. He said he wasn't completely surprised by the deal because he understands the business of the game.
"It's obviously another good team," said Fielder, who held a brief conference call Thursday. "I don't think it was going to be a bad thing. I thought it was going to be good for everyone. I just wanted everyone to be happy."
Fielder, who the Rangers made a run at before the 2012 season, would seem like a natural fit at Rangers Ballpark. The left-handed hitting Fielder has four homers and 15 RBI in his 13 games at the ballpark.
"I think it's going to be OK," he said. "I'm pretty excited about it actually."
Fielder isn't concerned about the heat either. He spent part of his childhood in the Metroplex and thinks the heat will help him get his muscle loose quicker and said he prefers playing in the heat.
Fielder was an All-Star in both his seasons with Detroit but it coming off a 25-homer year, which was his lowest full-season total in the majors. Fielder isn't sure why his numbers dropped off in 2013.
"I'm not really sure," he said of the reasons for his struggles. "If I would have known, I would have stopped it. Whatever I did last year, just do the opposite I guess."
He also said his season wasn't as bad as some people are making it out to be. The Tigers did advance to the American League Championship Series.
"Everything was cool," he said. "We went to the playoffs. Unfortunately we didn't get where we wanted to go. Everything's going to be all right."
He hopes coming to Texas will provide a spark for Fielder, who has had six 30-homer seasons.
"I think it will be differently and it will definitely be new," he said. "I'll take it. It's a fresh start I guess. I'm happy to be with Texas and hopefully we can have a good year."
