Fantasy Football Week 13 Best and Worst Performers

Fantasy Football Week 13 Best and Worst Performers

Published Nov. 30, 2014 2:36 p.m. ET

Twenty-two fantasy football players scored more than 25 fantasy points before the start of late games on Sunday.  Quarterbacks threw 43 touchdown passes with four games to play.  With BYES in the rearview mirror and fantasy football playoffs on the horizon, fantasy points were abundant in Week 13.

Note: all PPR scoring

Ryan Fitzpatrick & DeAndre Hopkins – 96.1 fantasy points (PPR)

Leave it to a Ryan Mallett season-ending injury to open the door for Ryan Fitzpatrick and what became a franchise-record day for the Texans.  The veteran quarterback completed 24 of 33 passes for 358 yards and a franchise-best six touchdowns.  Fitzpatrick also sat out the final nine minutes of the blowout win over the Titans.  It was his best fantasy day passing in a regulation game (no OT) since September 2011 against the Patriots.  You may recall some fast starts by Fitzpatrick in the past with the Bills (TD:INT ratio first month):

It was closing out seasons that was tough for Fitz, but I think in this case, the Titans’ defense can take the brunt of the critical analysis.

Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick and Hopkins have been on the same page all season as we observe a changing of the WR1 guard in Houston.  In Week 13, Hopkins caught a career-high nine passes on nine targets for a career-high 238 yards with a single-game career-high two touchdowns.

Tre Mason, Stedman Bailey and Rams DST – 84.4 fantasy points (PPR)

Utter domination … of the Oakland Raiders.  I’m not sure how that achievement trades on the mercantile exchange this week, but a blowout is a blowout is a blowout.

Mason had 113 yards rushing on six carries in the first half.  He finished with 117 rushing yards on 14 carries, three receptions for 47 yards with three total touchdowns.

Bailey’s Week 13 production is more about a two-week stretch that has seen the second-year receiver out of West Virginia haul in 12 receptions on 15 targets for 189 yards with a touchdown.  The waiver wire is heavily picked over heading into the fantasy playoffs, but this two-game stretch shows promise late in the season.

As for the Rams DST, zero points allowed, six sacks, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and a defensive touchdown.  Add it all up 32 fantasy points scored – a season-high for all fantasy defenses/special teams.

Coby Fleener and Donte Moncrief – 57.7 fantasy points combined (PPR)

Fleener laid an egg last week (28 yards) after posting 11 receptions for 221 yards with a touchdown in the two games prior.  With Dwayne Allen still sidelined, Fleener erupted once again for 127 yards on four receptions with two touchdowns including a career-long 73-yard catch and score.

One of my favorite stat lines of the season thus far was Moncrief’s two receptions for 127 yards with two touchdowns.  That was until he caught a third ball for seven yards.  Still, pretty solid ad-lib fantasy performance against the Redskins’ Swiss-cheese secondary.  It’s Moncrief’s second 100-yard game in the last five Colts games.

Keenan Allen – 35.1 fantasy points

Keenan, YOU’RE ALIVE!  Last two games against the Rams and Ravens, 17 receptions, 23 targets, 225 yards with three touchdowns.  Better late than never, but hopefully not too late for fantasy owners who are on the verge of missing the playoffs.  Also, last six games, Allen is averaging more than 11 targets per game (68 targets).

Kenny Stills – 27.2 fantasy points

Despite Drew Brees continued pass habit of spreading the wealth – nine different receivers in Week 13 against the Steelers – Stills fantasy stock continues to receive a boost with Brandin Cooks out due to injury.  Stills led the team with six targets and hauled in five for a career-high 162 yards and his third touchdown on the season.

Rashad Jennings – 24.4 fantasy points

He was on pace for 50 carries, but Tom Coughlin doesn’t care for the shenanigans of fantasy football and worked Andre Williams into the mix more often in the second half of the game.  You may recall prior to injury, Jennings rushed 34 times for 176 yards against the Texans earlier this season.  Owners had to settle for 91 yards on 26 carries with two touchdowns against the Jaguars.  Jennings is a great “what-if he didn’t get injured” candidate when looking back at the 2014 season.

Colt McCoy – 32.9 fantasy points

Browns quarterbacks combined for 23-38 passing with no touchdowns and two interceptions (Hoyer – 2) Week 13, while former quarterback McCoy completed 31-47 passes for a career-high 392 yards with three touchdowns.  It’s worth noting the 31 completions are NOT a career-high as McCoy completed 40-61 passes for 350 yards against the Titans during 2011 season as the Cleveland Browns trigger.

Jimmy Graham – Goose Eggs

Not even a target!  Third time in his career he’s posted goose eggs across the board.  It’s a tougher pill to swallow considering Brees connected with nine different receivers against the Steelers.

Tony Romo – 4 fantasy points

Sloppy game by Romo at home against the Eagles on Thanksgiving completing 18-29 passes for 199 yards with no touchdowns, but two interceptions.  The four fantasy points outside the Top 25 fantasy quarterbacks in Week 13 and by far Romo’s worst performance of the season.

Denard Robinson – 8.4 fantasy points

Pass protection issues pulled Robinson from the Jaguars’ offensive plans late in the game.  That’s not good looking down the road if you are counting on Robinson as a four-quarter asset at RB2.  After averaging 17.2 fantasy points per game during a four game stretch, Robinson is averaging 8.8 fantasy points per game over his last two (PPR).

Mike Evans – 8.9 fantasy points

Bengals defensive coordinators and defensive backs held Evans under 10 fantasy points for the first time since Week 3.  Over the last two weeks, Evans has averaged 48 yards with one touchdown.  In the three games before, Evans averaged 152.6 yards with five touchdowns.

This Week in Doug Martin

You knew something special could happen after he busted a 10-yard run early in the Buccaneers game against the Bengals.  Martin finished with a season-high 58 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown!  He ranked RB14 heading into Sunday night’s contest.
