Fantasy Baseball Buzz: Elbow surgery feared for Rays' Moore

The rumors surrounding Rays SP Matt Moore don't sound good. The team says that a Tuesday MRI on Moore's elbow was inconclusive, and he's headed to see the famed Dr. James Andrews (a Rays' team doctor) today. However, the Tampa Bay Times reports that "surgery is possible - if not probable - to repair a torn ligament that would sideline Moore for more than a year." We should know more today, but Moore's fantasy owners should prepare for the worst.
On to the rest of the news:
Angels OF Josh Hamilton injured his left thumb on Tuesday sliding head first into first base, and couldn't grip a bat firmly enough to hit later in the game. We should know more today about Hamilton's prognosis, and I'll be talking to my Little League team of six-, seven- and eight-year-olds tonight about the uselessness of sliding into first base.
Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) hopes to return to the lineup tonight, but it sounds like his injury woes might linger. Nats' manager Matt Williams called Zimmerman's shoulder "arthritic," and they're working on revising Zimmerman's throwing motion.
Royals SP Yordano Ventura tossed six shutout innings in his big-league debut, striking out six and hitting 100 mph on the gun. Here's some video.
Streaming starters: Tyson Ross wasn't so good last night, so we're down to 5-4 for the season. Today's pick is Washington's Tanner Roark (owned in 12.1 percent of FOXSports.com leagues) versus the Marlins, while Thursday's selection is Travis Wood (8.7 percent owned) against the Pirates.
Mariners SP James Paxton was removed from Tuesday's game due to a strained lat muscle. His prognosis is TBD.
Reds SP Mat Latos was scratched from his Tuesday rehab start due to elbow inflammation. The team says it took "a conservative route" by scratching Latos, but his projected return timetable of next week looks dicey.
Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre (quad) might be headed for the DL.
Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig (thumb) missed Tuesday's game, and is still day-to-day. In other Dodger news, Josh Beckett gets tonight's start.
FYI, the Padres and Indians play a doubleheader today starting at 12:05 p.m. ET. The intriguing and/or disappointing Trevor Bauer will start the nightcap for the Tribe.
Astros OF Dexter Fowler (stomach virus) made a pinch-hitting appearance in Tuesday's game, and hopes to play Wednesday.
Nice game, Ryan Braun. Whoa.
Back to Moore: The Rays are considering many mediocre options to replace him on Sunday.
Look for the White Sox to sit Adam Dunn again today in Denver.
Tigers OF Torii Hunter hurt his knee crashing into a wall last night, and will probably get today off. In other Tiger news, Miguel Cabrera played third base last night, and could do more of that in NL parks. He's already 3B-eligible for fantasy owners.
Look for Tyler Chatwood to return to the Rockies' rotation on Sunday.
See you back here tomorrow morning.
