Ex-Packers linebacker Smith scooped up by Chargers

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It took less than 24 hours for inside linebacker D.J. Smith to find a new team. One day after the Green Bay Packers released him, the 24-year-old signed with the San Diego Chargers.

Smith's agent, Lamont Smith, announced the signing via Twitter.

Smith, the Packers' sixth-round pick in 2011, was surprisingly cut on Wednesday. He started six games for the Packers last season before tearing his ACL and being placed on injured reserve.

Smith was the Week 1 starter for Green Bay in 2012 because of a torn hamstring suffered by Desmond Bishop in the preseason.

In his six starts, Smith recorded two sacks and 39 tackles.

"San Diego here we come," Smith tweeted Thursday.
