WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) Tony Brown will succeed another former All Black, Jamie Joseph, as head coach of Super Rugby champions the Highlanders in 2017.

Brown, who has been attack coach of the Dunedin-based team under Joseph, was selected above a number of high-profile candidates to win the right to coach the Highlanders, who won the Super Rugby title for the first time in 2015.

The former All Blacks flyhalf will team with current Highlanders assistant coach Scott McLeod and former All Blacks hooker Mark Hammett, who is the current coach of the Japan-based Super Rugby team the Sunwolves.
