CHESTER-LE-STREET, England (AP) England captain Alastair Cook won the toss and chose to bat in the second test against Sri Lanka on Friday, resisting the temptation to put the tourists back in after their batting failures in the first game.

England made just one forced change from the team that won by an innings and 88 runs in the series opener, replacing injured allrounder Ben Stokes with Chris Woakes.

Sri Lanka made two changes in its bowling attack. Milinda Siriwardana and Suranga Lakmal come in to the team to replace Dushmantha Chameera and Dasun Shanaka. Chameera is out of the series with a lower back injury.

Sri Lanka's batsmen are under pressure too after being bowled out for 91 and 119 in the heavy loss at Headingley.
