DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) Ben Duckett hit his maiden test half-century as England reached 100-0 at tea in pursuit of 273 on the third day of the second test on Sunday.

Duckett was unbeaten on 56, with captain Alastair Cook not out 39, defying an unpredictable pitch to remain unscathed.

It was England's highest opening partnership in the series as both openers used their feet to neutralize the Bangladesh spin attack and establish control of what appeared a difficult run chase.

Bangladesh could have made a breakthrough had Mahmudullah not dropped Duckett on 12 at slip when the batsman edged a delivery from offspinner Mehedi Hasan.

That was the only chance Bangladesh could create throughout the session. Duckett, however, grew with confidence and played some nice shots around the wicket.

He brought up his first half-century with a dab-sweep for four off Mehedi.

Bangladesh earlier was bowled out for 296 in its second innings after resuming the day on 152-3.
