EJ Manuel's rookie season hits the first speed bump

Sid Saraf, FOXSports.com On Friday night, I was feeling pretty good about EJ Manuel's chances to win the starting quarterback job in Buffalo. On Saturday ... I still feel good about his chances, but this new development just stinks. The first-round draft pick will have a minor procedure on his knee and is out for the rest of the preseason. The team released a statement: "EJ Manuel had some swelling in his left knee this morning and was examined by our medical staff. An MRI revealed that he will need to have a minor knee procedure and that has been scheduled. He will miss the remainder of the preseason and then be re-evaluated at that time. Kevin Kolb will be our starting quarterback for this weekend’s game at Washington." Exactly when this injury happened is still unclear, but it's not too soon to say that this is a real bummer. Manuel surprised me with his play in his first two games. I never doubted his talent, but he seemed to be in control of the offense and showed a good amount of polish for a rookie. Now he'll have to sit and watch for a couple weeks. Nonetheless, I still feel he'll be the starting QB for the Bills this season, even if Kevin Kolb has to start a couple game in the meantime.
