Dufner heats up ahead of U.S. Open

It's been a roller coaster year for Jason Dufner, so it is only fitting that his performance so far at the Memorial Tournament has been a roller coaster as well.
While Dufner's final scores were good on Thursday and Friday, he was not wholly consistent. The Cleveland-born golfer had three pars, two birdies, two eagles (one of which was a hole-in-one), a bogey and a double-bogey on the back nine on Friday. Those results were similar to his first round on the back nine Thursday, when he recorded a bogey, double bogey, two birdies and an eagle.
Despite the back nine inconsistency, Dufner sits one shot behind Memorial Tournament leader David Lingmerth at 11-under-par after two rounds, giving him a chance for another Top 10 finish entering the weekend. Dufner finished eighth in the AT&T Byron Nelson Classic last week.
"I've kind of had some stretches where I'm playing some really good golf and some poor golf," Dufner told the media Friday. "Hole-in-ones are great, kind of lucky. Picked up at least one on the field there. I'm happy where I'm at. I need to clean up the bad holes."
Dufner chase a PGA Tour record this weekend as well as another Top 10 finish. He currently sits one eagle away from tying a tour record held by Davis Love and Dave Eichelberger for the most eagles in a single tournament (five).
Overall, Dufner's results of late are encouraging heading into the U.S. Open, which Dufner qualified for by winning the PGA Championship in 2013. The 38-year-old's best finish of the season before the Byron Neslon was 17th place at the Honda Classic.
