Driskel totals 5 TDs, Louisiana Tech tops Southern

RUSTON, La. (AP) -- Jeff Driskel threw four touchdown passes and ran for another to lead Louisiana Tech over Southern 62-15 in the season opener for each team Saturday.
The former Florida quarterback threw more touchdown passes than incompletions, completing 12 of 15 attempts for 274 yards for the Bulldogs. He added 15 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Kenneth Dixon scored on a 65-yard run and 55-yard catch, giving him 63 total touchdowns for his career and putting him two behind NCAA active career leader Keenan Reynolds of Navy. Five different receivers caught touchdown passes from Driskel and backup Ryan Higgins.
Southern's Willie Quinn returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, ending Louisiana Tech's run of 24 straight points to start the game. Quinn scored three return touchdowns last season -- two on punt returns and one on kick return. Lenard Tillery ran for 72 yards and a touchdown.
