NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) Kenya's sports minister says a long-awaited doping law has been passed by the country's parliament.
The legislation now only needs to be signed by the president to be adopted as law.
Kenya needs to have legislation that criminalizes doping in place by May 2 to beat a final deadline set by the World Anti-Doping Agency. Kenya missed two previous deadlines and is in danger of being declared non-compliant with WADA's global code if it doesn't make improvements to its program.
Non-compliance could prompt the IAAF to consider further action against Kenya.
Sports minister Hassan Wario says ''today is a great day. The anti-doping bill has been passed. Olympics here we come.''
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he will sign the bill into law.
