Donovan McNabb never had an easy time in Philadelphia. Despite all those trips to NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl appearance, he never seemed to feel truly feel the love from Eagles fans. It's a sad tale that deserves a song. In fact, we have one that you should hum to yourself while reading this:
The trouble started on his first day with the franchise:
Then Eagles coach Andy Reid wanted McNabb with the Eagles' first-round pick back in 1999. Philly wanted running back Ricky Williams and so the fans in attendance decided to shower him with boos on draft night, which should have been one of the happiest nights of McNabb's life. DESPITE a legacy of bad memories, McNabb still wants to retire as a member of the Eagles. In fact, he's even set a date. McNabb suggested Sept. 19 as a date for a ceremony, when the Chiefs (led by his former head coach Andy Reid) visit the Eagles. He chose that day to celebrate his 92-49-1 record over 11 seasons as a starting quarterback with the team. He can also revel one last time over the fact that he holds several franchise passing records, including passing yards, touchdown passes and completions. He did all of this despite usually being met with this kind of fan reaction at games:
So, will the fans boo him one last time? According to Philly.com, notorious Philadelphia sports talk-radio lowlife Angelo Cataldi (who organized the booing of McNabb at the '99 NFL Draft) is determined to make it happen. "We should make sure we'll boo McNabb one last time!" garbage goblin Cataldi said on the odious hours of bile he calls a show. "We'll never have a chance again!" In fact, all these years later, Satan Cataldi still revels in ruining McNabb's draft night. "I'm proud of that," braying hyena Cataldi said. "That was a great moment. And all these years later, McNabb still whines about it." However, when steaming moose urine Cataldi posted an online poll asking if Eagles fans should boo McNabb at his proposed sendoff, 78 percent said NO. Good! McNabb, to his enormous credit, doesn't seem to hold any bitterness over Eagles fans, even though he has every right to. “There was never any animosity from the Philly fans,” McNabb said to the Syracuse Post-Standard. “The handful of fans that are the ones that are kind of being seen, they’re not a high percentage of fans who truly appreciate what you were able to do while you were there. "I have nothing but love for the Philly fans, even the ones who were highly criticizing me or opinionated in any way. I can’t get upset at them because my job is to get out on the field and be productive. That’s what quarterbacking is all about." Good for you, dude. Go out like a man. And if people want to come boo you, just smile and go home to your millions of dollars. You win in the end, Donovan. You win. Cataldi sucks.
