Dion Waiters to make Thunder debut with new number

New Thunder guard Dion Waiters will wear No. 23 for Oklahoma City tonight when the team plays Sacramento.
But that's not the number Waiters wanted.
"They didn't have any numbers I wanted," Waiters told The Oklahoman. "I wanted 3, I wanted 1. They didn't have that I said, OK, I'm going to take 13 because I wanted 1, they didn't have 1. Then 13, they didn't want me to wear 13. I didn't want to wear 23. My favorite number is 3. They just gave me 23.
"They didn't want me to wear 13. Guess they wanted me to have my own identity."
Just in case, anyone is wondering, former Thunder guard James Harden wore No. 13 for OKC.
No. 3 is taken on the roster by Perry Jones. No. 1 is a retired Seattle SuperSonics number and is not available.
Waiters was acquired from Cleveland n a three-team deal that sent Lance Thomas and a draft pick to the Knicks and J.R. Smith to Cleveland.
Waiters is expected to play tonight against the Kings.
