Did Eric Weddle's agent pull off an April Fools joke on his own client?

Chargers fans were up in arms on Monday afternoon following a tweet that surfaced insinuating that their Pro Bowl free safety Eric Weddle had been traded to the AFC West rival Broncos. The fans weren't the first to be hit with the news.
By the way, @davidcanter pulled the prank, first and foremost, on Eric Weddle himself. Weddle fell for it at first. Hilarious. — UTKevinAcee (@UTKevinAcee) April 1, 2013
As reported by Union-Tribune columnist Kevin Acee, Canter tried to pull a quick one on his client, and then took to Twitter to try to pull off the stunt.
Canter, who represents Weddle, went on to say that Weddle had been dealt to Denver.
Some NFL reporters weren’t so privy to the joke and immediately swatted down the idea.
.@davidcanter is a great follow. But today (4/1) he's being ridiculous. Trade wasn't believable even b4 Weddle told me it was to Broncos . — UTKevinAcee (@UTKevinAcee) April 1, 2013
Canter tried to stretch the joke out as long as possible, but then gave in.
Although Rahim Moore had a disappointing performance in the AFC Divisional Round, the Broncos said at the NFL Combine that they will stick with the young safety. As for Weddle, he's been a consistent playmaker for the Chargers, and this move would have been devastating to an up-and-coming unit.
