Normally, rescuing kittens is used as a punch line about some athlete who can do no wrong. Throws touchdown passes, runs for student council, rescues kittens. Hardy har har.
But in Johnny Manziel's case, that last part may generate more “Awwws” than laughs . On Wednesday, the Texas A&M quarterback tweeted that he rescued a kitten from a street in College Station.
“Just rescued a kitten from the middle of Welbourne Rd.,” Manziel tweeted, along with a photo of a small black cat.
The athletic Manziel, a redshirt freshman, is popular in College Station because has thrown for 641 yards and seven touchdowns and run for a team-high 262 yards in leading Texas A&M to a 2-1 record. (Though a little P.R. boost could never hurt.) Manziel was arrested in June on charges of possessing a fake driver’s license, failing to identify himself and fighting.
He quickly recovered in the eyes of coach Kevin Sumlin, though, beating out sophomore Jameill Showers for the starting job in August.
