Diamondbacks sign Mora to fill Reynolds' void

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Monday that they agreed to terms with infielder Melvin Mora on a one-year, $2 million contract.
Mora is expected to platoon at third base with veteran Geoff Blum in the absence of Mark Reynolds, who was traded Monday to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for pitchers Daniel Hernandez and Kam Mickolio.
"Happy to have him," Arizona general manager Kevin Towers said of Mora.
The 38-year-old Mora hit .285 with seven home runs and 45 RBI in 113 games for the Colorado Rockies last season. He saw most of his playing time at third base (63 games) and committed just five errors in 115 chances for a .957 fielding percentage. Since 2004, his .960 fielding percentage at third base ranks 13th among all third basemen.
Over parts of 12 seasons in the Majors with the New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles and Rockies, he has a .278 average with 789 runs scored, 277 doubles, 19 triples, 171 home runs, 738 RBI, 518 walks and 93 stolen bases. Mora has played in at least 110 games for seven straight seasons and has seen action at every position excep
The two-time American League All-Star earned the 2004 AL Silver Slugger Award as the top offensive player at third base after leading all AL hitters with a .419 on-base percentage and finishing second with a .340 batting average.
